A NEW ADVENTURE

LEON KONING X Duchenne Parent Project

Leon Koning x Duchenne Parent Project.

Leon is an adventurer at heart. He has gained recognition for his passion for endurance sports and teamwork, most notably through his participation in the Atlantic rowing challenge with Team Row4Cancer, raising awareness and support for children’s cancer research. Colleagues and peers describe him as energetic, reliable, and highly motivated, someone who thrives both in demanding professional environments and extreme physical challenges.

The Duchenne Parent Project is a cause close to Leon.

A word from Leon:

"On June 20, I will begin a new adventure: a solo and unsupported cycling journey from the North Cape to Tarifa, more than 7,400 km from the northernmost to the southernmost point of Europe. Crossing 15 countries, it is the longest cycling event in the world."

"Everything I need will be carried on my bike. No guidance. No support. An extreme challenge, but for me it is about more than just the distance."

"I am riding to raise money for the Duchenne Parent Project, which is committed to research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and better care for children with Duchenne."

It is a cause that hits close to home. In the family of my coach and good friend, Ties van Ginneken, Duchenne is a daily reality. Their brave and wonderful son Kaj has Duchenne.

My goal: at least €1 per kilometer (€7,400+).

Every contribution helps.

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

If you are born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), your muscles gradually break down and you become increasingly weaker. Duchenne mainly affects boys. Children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy often fall and have difficulty running.

Around the age of 10, most children already experience problems walking and become dependent on a wheelchair. It also becomes increasingly difficult to use their arms. And when the muscles needed for breathing become too weak, ventilation support is required. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is ultimately fatal because the heart muscle also becomes progressively weaker.
